Broncos Clinch #1 Seed in AFC; Panthers Clinch #1 Seed in NFC
The playoffs are set are the final week of the regular season, and only twelve teams remain in the hunt for Super Bowl 50. The other 20 teams are moving on to the offseason, with issues to fix leading up to the draft.
AFC Playoffs:
- Denver Broncos (12-4)
- New England Patriots (12-4)
- Cincinnati Bengals (12-4)
- Houston Texans (9-7)
- Kansas City Chiefs (11-5)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)
The Patriots had another chance to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, and once again, they blew their opportunity. Instead, the road to the Super Bowl will go through Denver after they pulled off a close win against the Chargers with the return of Peyton Manning, who came in the game after Brock Osweiler struggled to move the ball down the field. The Patriots secured a first-round bye even with their loss, and the Bengals hold the third seed. The Texans won the porous AFC South (someone had to), and the two wildcard teams can be very dangerous. The Chiefs are riding a ten game win streak while the Steelers have a dangerous offense that can put up points in a hurry. Watch out for both teams to wreck havoc in the playoffs.
NFC Playoffs:
- Carolina Panthers (15-1)
- Arizona Cardinals (13-3)
- Green Bay Packers/Minnesota Vikings (11-5) *
- Washington Redskins (9-7)
- Green Bay Packers/Minnesota Vikings (10-6) *
- Seattle Seahawks (10-6)
* To be determined
I do not think many people believed that the Panthers would be 15-1 heading into the playoffs. Cam Newton has played outstanding football as quarterback and deserves to be MVP this season. The Cardinals' 9 game win streak ended today with a blowout loss to the Seahawks, which is surprising to say the least. The Seahawks are the #6 seed in the NFC, and we all know that they can be dangerous as they have been to the last two Super Bowls. The Packers and Vikings are currently dueling it out in the final game of the regular season with the winner taking the NFC North crown and the number three seed, and the loser becoming the #5 seed. The loser of this game will play the Washington Redskins, and Kirk Cousins and Co. is on fire. He threw three touchdowns in the first half against the Cowboys and their starters sat the second half, resting up for the playoffs. "You like that!"
There are many great teams who could make a deep run in the playoffs this year on the road to Super Bowl 50.
