Divisional Round Game Picks

The Divisional Round

  1. Kansas City Chiefs over the New England Patriots 27-24: I am not quite sure who I should pick in the first game of the weekend. The team that has won eleven straight games, or the team that had the first round bye and has Tom Brady? I don't think that I can pick against a team that is on fire, especially the Chiefs. This team was 1-5 at one point, finished the season 11-5, and they beat the Texans on the road 30-0. I don't think they will shut out the Patriots, but I believe that they will do enough in the game to keep things close and ultimately win the game. The Chiefs defense forces a lot of turnovers, and the Chiefs offense doesn't turn the ball over a lot over the course of the game. I expect their defensive line to overpower the Patriots' banged up offensive line, and I also expect them to control their passing game. This will be a close one, but the Chiefs will pull off the upset with a winning field goal.
  2. Arizona Cardinals over the Green Bay Packers 30-17: I picked against the Packers last week against the Redskins, but I still believe that their offense is overrated. They played well one week, but the Redskins are not the Cardinals. They are arguably the most complete team in the league on both sides of the ball. They throw touchdowns, run the ball, cause havoc on the defensive line, and force multiple sacks a game. Two or three weeks ago, they beat the Packers 36-6, and Aaron Rodgers took a beating in that game. I don't think the offense can get the job done without Jordy Nelson, and the Cardinals will move on coming off a bye week.
  3. Seattle Seahawks over the Carolina Panthers 14-13: Defense rules. This is another one of those games that I am not sure who to go side with, and it is more of a toss up. The one reason why I chose the Seahawks over the Panthers is because Marshawn Lynch is expected to return to the lineup which would definitely boost the offense, and also because the 'Hawks have more playoffs experience and pedigree. I think their experience will pay off in a game like this. They might also want to prove a point after only winning the game last week becauDese of a missed field goal. Even though the Panthers were 15-1 during the regular season and Cam Newton definitely deserves to be MVP, their offense still has many issues and can be exposed. I think the Seahawks will win a tight matchup.
  4. Denver Broncos over the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-20: Injuries, injuries, injuries. This Steelers team could have been much different if it has not been more some injuries. Antonio Brown and DeAngelo Williams are already out, and Ben Roethlisberger's status is uncertain. If Big Ben does play, it would be incredibly dificult for him to get the offense moving down the field against the #1 defense in the league without his two top threats. Also, I believe that Peyton Manning will have a pretty decent game as starter once again, and lead his team to the conference championship game.

Why the Patriots Won Super Bowl 51

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. In my opinion, though, the real reason why the Patriots won, is because of t...

Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Here are my rankings heading into Week 14: Los Angeles Rams (11-1) Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) New Orleans Saints (10-2) Los Angeles Chargers (9-3) New England Patriots (9-3) Houston Texans (9-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (...

Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams. Here are my power rankings heading into Week 7: Los Angeles Rams (6-0) New Orleans Saints (4-1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) New England Patriots (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) Baltimore Ravens (4-2) Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) Carolina Panthers (3-2) Green Bay P...
