Recapping the Conference Round Games

The Home Teams Win

New England Patriots over the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20: Tom Brady had all of his weapons back for the first time in a long time, and the offense was clicking. Their top two running backs are out, but Steven Jackson and James White are producing well. Julian Edelman was back in the lineup, and Rob Gronkowski played well like always (scoring two touchdowns). The Chiefs were unable to put points on the board and produce on their opportunities and fell in a deep hole heading into the fourth quarter. There was also bad time management decisions by the coaches for the Chiefs, and they did not even receive a chance to try and tie the game up.

Arizona Cardinals over the Green Bay Packers 26-20 in OT: I believe that this was the best game of the weekend. It had everything; Larry Fitzgerald playing like he is not in his 30s, Carson Palmer throwing terrible passes, two Hail Mary passes on the final couple of plays in the fourth quarter by Aaron Rodgers to tie the game, and even a coin toss in which the coin did not flip. The game was entertaining, but with Fitzmagic and good defense (for the most part), the Cardinals came out on top in overtime.

Carolina Panthers over the Seattle Seahawks 31-24: This game was a tale of two halves. It seemed as though the Panthers put the game out of reach in the first half as they scored 31 unanswered points (31-0) thanks to two picks by Russell Wilson. But in the second half, the Seahawks almost completed their furious comeback, as they scored 24 unanswered points, and did not recover the onside kick in the final minute of regulation. The Panthers got over the hump and the Seahawks will not be returning to the Super Bowl for three consecutive years, but the way the Panthers closed out the game has to be troublesome and the problems they had in the half must be fixed by next week when they will play the Cardinals.

Denver Broncos over the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-16: If Big Ben Roethlisberger did not have an injured shoulder (he still played), if DeAngelo Williams or LeVeon Bell were not injured, if their starting center and left tackle were not injured, and if Antonio Brown did not have a concussion, the Steelers could have won this game. They basically had too many injuries to overcome in the end. On another note, we will see Manning vs. Brady play each other for the eighteenth time next week. Manning looks completely healthy right now, the best he has been in over a year, and against the Steelers, he was able to push the ball down the field and control the game along with their outstanding defense.

Why the Patriots Won Super Bowl 51

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. In my opinion, though, the real reason why the Patriots won, is because of t...

Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Here are my rankings heading into Week 14: Los Angeles Rams (11-1) Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) New Orleans Saints (10-2) Los Angeles Chargers (9-3) New England Patriots (9-3) Houston Texans (9-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (...

Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams. Here are my power rankings heading into Week 7: Los Angeles Rams (6-0) New Orleans Saints (4-1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) New England Patriots (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) Baltimore Ravens (4-2) Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) Carolina Panthers (3-2) Green Bay P...
