MVP Candidates

Matt Ryan is my MVP

Unlike last year when Cam Newton was the clear-cut MVP based on his performance throughout the regular season, throwing and running for a significant amount of yards and leading the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 record as well as a Super Bowl berth. This year, many candidates are in the mix, including a couple of quarterbacks and running backs, as well as some other players as well. Here are my rankings for the top ten MVP candidates:
  1. Matt Ryan - Quarterback - Atlanta Falcons
  2. Aaron Rodgers - Quarterback - Green Bay Packers
  3. Ezekiel Elliot - Running Back - Dallas Cowboys
  4. Tom Brady - Quarterback - New England Patriots
  5. Derek Carr - Quarterback - Oakland Raiders
  6. Le'Veon Bell - Running Back - Pittsburgh Steelers
  7. David Johnson - Running Back - Arizona Cardinals
  8. Von Miller - Linebacker/Pass Rusher - Denver Broncos
  9. Odell Beckham Jr. - Wide Receiver - New York Giants
  10. Matthew Stafford - Quarterback - Detroit Lions
I do not appreciate how underrated Matt Ryan is in terms of the MVP race, and how he is not even considered to be in the mix along with Rodgers, Brady, and Elliot. I believe that Ryan has made the biggest difference on his team, and without him, the Falcons would easily have a losing record. His numbers are outstanding - he is second in passing yards, second in touchdown passes, first in QBR, first in completion percentage, first in yards per completion, first in scoring, and he has only thrown seven interceptions the entire season. Everyone is talking about Aaron Rodgers, who led his team on a 6-0 run when he put up record numbers, even though he was part of the reason the team started 4-6. Tom Brady was great, but he missed four games, and I believe his success has to do more with good coaching, because the team started 3-1. Ezekiel Elliot should not win the MVP, his offensive line should, and he has not done everything on that team himself. Prescott has also been playing great as their new quarterback. Matt Ryan has been the most consistent player this season, and continues to make the Falcons better. He has led the team to an 11-5 record, and the bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Matt Ryan is your league MVP.

Why the Patriots Won Super Bowl 51

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. In my opinion, though, the real reason why the Patriots won, is because of t...

Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Here are my rankings heading into Week 14: Los Angeles Rams (11-1) Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) New Orleans Saints (10-2) Los Angeles Chargers (9-3) New England Patriots (9-3) Houston Texans (9-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (...

Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams. Here are my power rankings heading into Week 7: Los Angeles Rams (6-0) New Orleans Saints (4-1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) New England Patriots (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) Baltimore Ravens (4-2) Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) Carolina Panthers (3-2) Green Bay P...
