Broncos Coach Might Step Down
Reports by NFL.com and ESPN have said that there is a good possibility that Gary Kubiak might retire at the end of this season. He led the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl win against the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, in Peyton Manning's last year as a quarterback. This season, his team has struggled a bit due to stagnant offensive play, and currently 8-7. They will miss the playoffs. Kubiak has been considering retirement after Week 17's game against the Raiders because of health concerns. In one game this season, he had to leave the game and go to the hospital as a result of certain ailments, and was unable to coach in the next game. Kubiak has had a great career as a player and a coach, and if he retires, the Broncos will have to search for a new coach - someone who can lead the team back to the playoffs and another Super Bowl. They will also have to figure out what to do about the quarterback situation along with John Elway. Here are the top coaching candidates if Kubiak does indeed retire:
- Wade Philips - Broncos Defensive Coordinator
- Vance Joseph - Dolphins Defensive Coordinator
- Josh McDaniels - Patriots Offensive Coordinator
- Kyle Shanahan - Falcons Offensive Coordinator
- Darrell Bevell - Seahawks Offensive Coordinator
Here is some other news about head coach positions around the league:
- The San Francisco 49ers will probably fire both Chip Kelly and Trent Baalke, their general manager, at the end of the season, looking to clear the entire house for a new head coach to take over.
- There is mutual interest between Sean Payton, the Saints head coach, and the Los Angeles Rams. The Saints are slowly becoming tired of their mediocre seasons every year, so they might look to trade Payton. Sean Payton would work with a lot of young talent in Los Angeles, and he loves the location as well.
- John Fox (Bears), Mike McCoy (Chargers), and Chuck Pagano (Colts), are all on thin ice, and the owners are figuring out what to do in their cases.
- Todd Bowles, the Jets head coach, will probably stay with the team for at least another season.
WATCH OUT: Marvin Levis - Head Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals
