Head Coaching Updates

New Coaches

Five out of six teams have found a new coach this offseason, with one, the San Francisco 49ers, still searching for a general manager and a head coach. Here are the latest updates:
  1. Buffalo Bills - They signed Sean McDermott, the former defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers, as their new coach. He is the anti-Rex Ryan, and does not have a big mouth. He will try to give the team a new identity and build toughness. He must figure out first and foremost if the Bills should resign Tyrod Taylor or not.
  2. Los Angeles Rams - They signed Sean McVay, the youngest head coach in NFL history, and he is only 30 years old. He is the former offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins. McVay reminds many people of a young Jay Gruden, and someone who will try to work his magic to make Jared Goff play like a #1 overall pick, and help Todd Gurley run with fire.
  3. Los Angeles Chargers - They signed Anthony Lynn, the former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator and interim head coach. He brings an identity of toughness to the team, and is a fresh face for the franchise in a new city in the toughest division.
  4. Denver Broncos - They signed Vance Joseph, the former defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins, after Gary Kubiak retired. He is working with the best team ready for a Super Bowl run, although he must figure out who will be the starting quarterback - Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch.
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars - They signed Doug Marrone, their interim head coach, and he is poised to rejuvenate the offense and Blake Bortles to make the team a playoff contender next year.
  6. San Francisco 49ers - The team is still searching for a general manager, and many coaches have decided that they do not want to become the new head coach. Josh McDaniels, a leading contender for the job, said he is happy in his current situation. The top candidate is most likely Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, although he might not want to move away from his team either.

Why the Patriots Won Super Bowl 51

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. In my opinion, though, the real reason why the Patriots won, is because of t...

Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Here are my rankings heading into Week 14: Los Angeles Rams (11-1) Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) New Orleans Saints (10-2) Los Angeles Chargers (9-3) New England Patriots (9-3) Houston Texans (9-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (...

Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams. Here are my power rankings heading into Week 7: Los Angeles Rams (6-0) New Orleans Saints (4-1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) New England Patriots (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) Baltimore Ravens (4-2) Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) Carolina Panthers (3-2) Green Bay P...
