Hot Names to Watch for Head Coaching Positions

Kyle Shanahan, Josh McDaniels Drawing Interest from Many Team

Entering the first Monday after the regular season, we already know that six coaches have been relieved of their duties, and we are still waiting on news from a couple of other teams and their plans, such as the Indianapolis Colts, New Orlean Saints, and Cincinnati Bengals. Many teams are already scheduling interviews with the most coveted coordinators and coaches as soon as possible. Here is a team by team rundown:
  • Los Angeles Rams: This team is very attractive because of its location, and also because the team has a lot of young, raw talent that can be developed, including Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and Aaron Donald.
    • Head Coach INTERVIEWS: Jon Gruden, Sean Payton (Saints head coach), Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan.
  • San Francisco 49ers: If a coach wants to build a team from the ground up, this is the team to join. Jed York just fired the general manager and the coach, and are looking to rebuild through the draft on both sides of the ball. Before looking for a head coach, this team must hire a general manager more.
    • Head Coach INTERVIEWS: Josh McDaniels.
    • Head Coach CANDIDATES: Anthony Lynn, Kyle Shanahan, Tom Cable, Darell Bevell.
  • Buffalo Bills: This team is looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time in over twenty years. They need a coach who will make a decision on what to do with Tyrod Taylor, and someone who can change the culture in the organization.
    • Head Coach INTERVIEWS: Anthony Lynn, Sean McDermott, Harold Goodwin.
    • Head Coach CANDIDATES: Kyle Shanahan, Matt Patricia, Teryl Austin, Jim Schwartz.
  • Denver Broncos: The Broncos are coming off a Super Bowl 50 win, and probably would have been really good next year with their current (now former) head coach, Gary Kubiak, who decided to retire due to health concerns. They have a top three defense led by Von Miller, and the offensive side of the ball, all of the weapons are in place - they just need to develop the offensive line and quarterback.
    • Head Coach INTERVIEWS: Kyle Shanahan, Vance Joseph.
    • Head Coach CANDIDATES: Sean McVay, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin, Darell Bevell.
  • San Diego Chargers: There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding this team, mainly because they are not sure if they are moving to Los Angeles, and what to do with Philip Rivers. There is a lot of talent, and they will be able to compete in the AFC West if they are to able to overcome their injuries.
    • Head Coach INTERVIEWS: Vance Joseph.
    • Head Coach CANDIDATES: Darell Bevell, Teryl Austin, Kyle Shanahan, Josh McDaniels.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars: This could also be an extremely attractive coaching gig for many coaches because of the talent on both sides of the ball. With better coaching and leadership, coupled with better quarterback play from Blake Bortles, the Jaguars could become very dangerous in the AFC South.
    • Head Coach INTERVIEWS: Tom Couglin, Doug Marrone, Josh McDaniels, Harold Goodwin, Kyle Shanahan, Mike Smith.
    • Head Coach CANDIDATES: Vance Joseph, Teryl Austin, Jim Schwartz.

Why the Patriots Won Super Bowl 51

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. In my opinion, though, the real reason why the Patriots won, is because of t...

Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Here are my rankings heading into Week 14: Los Angeles Rams (11-1) Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) New Orleans Saints (10-2) Los Angeles Chargers (9-3) New England Patriots (9-3) Houston Texans (9-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (...

Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams. Here are my power rankings heading into Week 7: Los Angeles Rams (6-0) New Orleans Saints (4-1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) New England Patriots (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) Baltimore Ravens (4-2) Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) Carolina Panthers (3-2) Green Bay P...
