Giants, Cardinals, and Titans Have New Coaches

The New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans have all hired their new coaches.
  1. The Giants have decided to go with Pat Shurmur, the former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator. He did a great job in Minnesota considering the offense ranked amongst the best and they lost two quarterbacks and their starting running back during the year. He molded Case Keenum into a starting quarterback and made Adam Thielen a Pro Bowl receiver. The Giants also hired James Bettcher as their new defensive coordinator.
  2. The Titans hired Mike Vrabel, the former defensive coordinator of the Houston Texans. Vrabel brings toughness to the team and a new culture to help them improve from 9-7. At the same time, this hire does not do much for the offense and developing Marcus Mariota. He will need to hire a great offensive coordinator (possibly John DeFilippo, the current quarterback's coach of the Philadelphia Eagles).
  3. The Cardinals hired Steve Wilkes, who was the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers for one year. He is another guy who will bring toughness and character to a team that seems to be a quarterback away from making another run to the Super Bowl.
The Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts are still waiting to hire a coach. The Lions plan on signing Matt Patricia, the defensive coordinator of the Patriots, and the Colts plan on signing Josh McDaniels, the offensive coordinator of the Patriots. As everyone knows, the Pats are once again playing in the Super Bowl so these teams cannot hire these coaches until after the big game.

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams.
