The NFC Playoff Picture

NFC South on a Roll

This year, the NFC is a lot tougher, and better, compared to the AFC. There are many contenders with winning records, and every team is going to have to play well coming down the stretch. There are also plenty of matchups left that will decide how the NFC playoff picture changes. For example, this weekend, the Vikings will play the Falcons, the Panthers will play Saints, the Eagles will play the Seahawks, and the Cowboys already defeated the Redskins on Thursday night. All of these matchups will have major playoff implications, considering that all of the teams mentioned are in the playoff hunt. As of today, the NFC South would send three teams to the playoffs, with the Saints winning the division, the Panthers claiming the #5 seed and the Falcons as the #6 seed. The Seahawks, Lions, Cowboys, and Redskins are on the outside looking in. The Eagles can be the first team to lock up a playoff spot if they defeat the Seahawks this afternoon.

On another note, tiebreakers will play a significant role in determining who receives a playoff berth. The Saints currently hold the tiebreaker over the Panthers, but this could change if the Panthers defeat them this weekend. The Falcons hold the tiebreaker over the Seahawks, Cowboys, Packers, and Lions because they have defeated all of them. The Panthers hold the tiebreaker over the Falcons, but they have to play each other again in Week 17. The Saints and Falcons have to play each other TWICE to close out the season. The Seahawks defeated the Rams in Week 5, so they currently hold the tiebreaker, but the Rams defeated the Saints. Also, the Rams still have to play the Eagles.

Nothing is set in stone in the NFC, and a lot of dominoes still have to fall heading into the playoffs.

Predictions for This Week's Games:
  1. Atlanta Falcons defeat the Minnesota Vikings 27-24
  2. New Orleans Saints defeat the Carolina Panthers 23-17
  3. Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Seattle Seahawks 30-21
Predictions for Playoff Seeding:
  1. Philadelphia Eagles (14-2)
  2. Minnesota Vikings (13-3)
  3. Los Angeles Rams (12-4)
  4. New Orleans Saints (12-4)
  5. Atlanta Falcons (11-5)
  6. Carolina Panthers (10-6)
  7. Seattle Seahawks (10-6)
  8. Detroit Lions (10-6)
  9. Dallas Cowboys (9-7)
  10. Washington Redskins (8-8)
  11. Green Bay Packers (7-9)
  12. Arizona Cardinals (6-10)
(Only Top 6 make it to the playoffs.)

Why the Patriots Won Super Bowl 51

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. In my opinion, though, the real reason why the Patriots won, is because of t...

Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Here are my rankings heading into Week 14: Los Angeles Rams (11-1) Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) New Orleans Saints (10-2) Los Angeles Chargers (9-3) New England Patriots (9-3) Houston Texans (9-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (...

Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams. Here are my power rankings heading into Week 7: Los Angeles Rams (6-0) New Orleans Saints (4-1) Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) New England Patriots (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) Baltimore Ravens (4-2) Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) Carolina Panthers (3-2) Green Bay P...
