Eagles get Ajayi; Bills get Benjamin; 49ers get Garrapolo
Jay Ajayi: The running back was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles from the Miami Dolphins for a fourth-round draft pick. The Eagles really did not need much help on offense, but they still got much better. Ajayi exploded onto the scene after he posted back-to-back 200-yard rushing performances last year for the Dolphins. In seven games with the Dolphins this year, he posted 465 rushing yards, but never found the end zone. The Dolphins' head coach, Adam Gase, said that his team had the "worst offense in football", and talked about how Ajayi was a major problem. The next day, he was traded. Apparently, Ajayi did not get along well with the coaching staff. In his first game with the Eagles this season, Ajayi scored on a long touchdown run.
Kelvin Benjamin: The Carolina Panthers sent their leading receiver to the Buffalo Bills, in exchange for a third-round pick and seventh-round pick. Benjamin led the team in receiving yards this season. After suffering a torn ACL in 2015, the receiver had an up-and-down year in 2016 and has not been consistent at all. This could be a reason as to why the Panthers believed that he was expendable to their offense.
Jimmy Garropolo: The back-up to Tom Brady was finally traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a second-round draft pick. The 49ers believe that they can build the offense around him and that he will be the franchise quarterback for years to come. They are no longer in the market for Kirk Cousins. On the other hand, the Patriots are banking on the idea that Tom Brady will be able to play for years to come.
