Quarterback Battles

Who is Going to be the Leader?


Based on what we have seen in the preseason, there will be tough quarterback battles to become top dog for several teams. Many rookies have played well, and have the potential to take away the starting job from the expected starters. Here is my take on some of the situations:
  1. Chicago Bears - Mike Glennon was set up for success, before the Bears decided to draft Trubisky with the 2nd pick in the draft. He has faltered terribly during the preseason, and it seems as though it is only a matter of time until Trubisky becomes the starter.
  2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Blake Bortles has continued to struggle, and the head coach, Doug Marrone, has decided to start Chad Henne in his place. I think Bortles will start this season, but he has not played well at all since he came into the league.
  3. Los Angeles Rams - Jared Goff will be the starter.
  4. Cleveland Browns - Cody Kessler was the starter last season, but Brock Osweiler and DeShone Kizer have both played well. Time will tell who the starter will be; everyone has played extremely well for the Browns.
  5. Kansas City Chiefs - Alex Smith will be the starter this year. Patrick Mahomes II is the plan for the future.
  6. New York Jets - They should start Christian Hackenberg, but they will most likely roll with Josh McCown. This team is terrible, and honestly, it does not matter who starts, because the receiving corps is even worse than the quarterbacks.
  7. Houston Texans - DeShaun Watson should start this season, but the head coach might not think the time is right, and could choose to start Tom Savage instead.

Pats Win Over Falcons 34-28 in OT It was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Patriots could not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. In the second half, the Falcons could not get anything going. Belichick and Brady pulled off some more magic and won their fifth Super Bowl together. In the second half, it seemed as though the game was getting away from the Atlanta Falcons, and their youth caught up to them. I believe that this game should have definitely been won by the Falcons, but the game slipped away from them. There are many reasons to explain what happened, including the fact that the Falcons did not run the football to milk down the clock in the second half, they turned the ball over when it was not necessary, they did not play as tough and physical on defense and seemed gassed, and even just because Tom Brady and the rest of his offense played a hell of a game. Week 14 Power Rankings

Cowboys on a Roll, Panthers Drop Not many people expected the Dallas Cowboys to top the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football during Week 13. The Saints came into the game winning ten straight, while the Cowboys were a "mediocre" team in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Cowboys won 13-10 and will rise in the week's rankings. In other important games, the Chicago Bears lost a shocker to the New York Giants, Lamar Jackson won his third straight game for the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans won their ninth straight game, and the Los Angeles Chargers won a close one against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Carolina Panthers are quickly fading in the wild-card race, and have lost four straight games. Week 7 Power Rankings

Chiefs Suffer First Loss; Ravens Shut Out Titans The New England Patriots were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs by three points at home, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back to avoid an upset to the 49ers, the Steelers defeated the Bengals, and the Dolphins took down the Bears at the end of overtime. There were some unexpected wins and losses, as well as some close games, in Week 6. The Dallas Cowboys blew out the Jacksonville Jaguars and their top-notch defense, 40-7. It is been hard to figure out which teams are "contenders" and which are "pretenders" this season. It is especially difficult to rank the middle of the pack teams.
